Star Trek: Phoenix: Uniforms
Created in Seattle, WA, "Star Trek: Phoenix" is one of the premier "Star Trek" fan production in the Pacific Northwest, and globally. Set 42 years after the events of "Star Trek: Nemesis", the Federation faces a new threat, and while the Romulans rebuild themselves after their home planet Romulus is destroyed (as depicted in J.J. Abrams' 2009 feature "Star Trek"), having created a peace treaty with the Federation. Check it out over at http://www.stphoenix.com/

My duties on board the Phoenix were many. I was one of the fight choreographers ("Holo-Victory" vignette), production assistant, costumer designer and costuming assistant, technical writer, ect. Below you'll find Starfleet's ambasador unfiorm, duty uniforms, and the SABRE combat uniform. And who's SABRE you ask? Well that's easy. SABRE stands for "Special Assault & Battle Reconnaissance Excursion". Yeah, long title lol.  Basiclly, they're the future's special forces, attached directly to Starfleet Intelligence. They're independently operated, yet still follow the Starfleet council's orders. Since the hoenix is such a larger ship (and I men big... several times bigger than the Enterprise-E. Think Star Destroyer size), they'res a whole two squads and even have one of their own ships docked on board the USS Phoenix.

Anyways, they're badass. Now on to the pictures:

Actor Ben Andrews sporting the Captain's uniform.
This uniform was designed to go with the gritty real look of the show. The armor there is made from upholstery pleather. The entire uniform consists of a panneled jumpsuit and duty jacket. Both used larger zippers. The side panels and right arm are a quilted cotton, the left arm is covered in a fish net material while the rest was made with a poly-cotton. All of the colors are Purple (Commando), Red (Secuirty/Engineering), Blue (Sciences/Medical)
Telllier Killaby Booth, one of the actresses, wearing a science and medical uniform while we were promoting "Phoenix" at NorWesCon 2010 You can see the creator and  executive producer, Leo Roberts, in the background.
On set with Joe Downing(Right), Vanesa Cobbs(Left), and  Elle Sonnet (Background).
Command and Sciences uniform. Notice the wrist-gauntlet mounted tricorders =)
Actor Roy Stanton is wearing the Starfleet Ambassador's uniform.  The while cotton quilted materail is the same as used on the side panels and right arm of the standard uniforms, while the collar, both arms, and most of the jumpsuit is made with a black lizard scale print fabric. you cna also see Ben Andrews again, showing the armor on the back as well.
Actor James Lyle, with Actor Ben Johnson in the background
Joe Downing again, getting ready to fire his phaser.
Roy Stanton again, coming out of no where.
Actress Lorraine Montez wearing the SABRE uniform. although it also consists of a jumpsuit and duty jacket, there's quite a few differences. For one, more armor. over the front and back/ This uniform is more symmetrical than the standard uniform. The side panels are the same grey material as everything else, just covered in that fishnet material, and both arms are fishnet covered. The armor is a hard arctic type vinyl.
Lorraine Montez, Roy Stanton, and Ben Andrews meet up in the alien forest.
The concept art of the SABRE uniform. Templates for the armor was created with Illustrator, then printed out, traced, and cut. Although you don't see it in the pictures above of Lorraine in the SABRE uniform, we had decided not to use the greeves for the shoot of "Cloak and Dagger". I think I remember talking with Leo Roberts about it once, and we figured it would be optional gear for SABRE personnel.

Uniforms:
Martial Arts Karate Gi: This is a personal project that I asked both of my sensei's if I could do. I don't have a GI anymore, and I asked if I could make my own with my own style. They said I could as long as they clear it. Both of these men have helped to shape me as a martial artist and as a person for years, and I wanted it to be a testament to them, so I'm using their colors as the main palette: Black, White, and Red. I draw up a few concepts, but these two stood out the most. These are initial concepts, and I'm awaiting feedback from my sensei's before a I make a prototype. These also doubles as a concept for a competition GI. I based the cut on a traditional GI and leather jackets.

Created in Illustrator

The white band in the back of the mostly red GI shows that the wearer is always learning, whatever the belt rank. The red band in the back of mostly white GI, shows the blood sweat and tears the wearer has poured into their training to learn and continue learning, and to present that to the martial arts community as we all continue to learn through blood, sweat, and tears together. That's why I chose a darker red, to show the dirt and grime of the time and emotions dedicated to each other. The Kanji is the name of the Karate style: Isshinryu (One Heart Method)

Although the flares on the main body make it looks like it would be snug, it would be loose/snug like a normal GI to be comfortable and give a wide range of motion. I figured there could be two. One for dojo use, one for competition and expos if/when ever done. As well as a special variants for the instructors and black belts of the dojo, with the collars of both being black.
